Mutant Storm Empire
WORDS BY: Corey Cohen
“It’s the Smash TV of dual-analog shooters,” said one of my staffmates while watching me play Mutant Storm Empire. And he’s right: this sequel to Live Arcade’s Mutant Storm Reloaded takes its predecessor’s (and Geometry Wars’) tight arena-based format and busts it wide-open. As you finish each of Empire’s 16 levels, the game sends you on a path right into the next level, so they feel seamlessly interconnected.

Liked Geometry Wars? The same strategies apply. Run circles around enemies, firing all the way.
And the levels are full of breakneck action. In areas of all shapes — some with towering posts, moving walls, and other obstacles — you’ll fight everything from giant, slime-slinging snails to laser-wielding robots and flocks of rabid mutants. For a Live Arcade game, the graphics are wonderfully detailed.

When asteroids attack, it's nice to have a friend by your side.
Five difficulty levels let you dial down (or crank up!) the hurt, and co-op multiplayer lets you battle alongside a buddy — for balancing purposes, you can’t fire as far and neither of you has the special weapon that's available in single-player. Whether you’re flanking foes together or dodging gracefully in a solo session, Empire is a fast, well-designed blast-a-thon.

I loved the first one, but have heard that this one is too dependant on MP. How is it for a single player game?
