This Week in Xbox — 10/31

WORDS BY: Taylor Cocke

Zombies? In My World War II?

According to Team Xbox, Call of Duty: World at War will contain a new multiplayer game mode — Nazi Zombies. In this 4-player cooperative mode, unlockable after finishing the single-player campaign, players will team up to destroy the oncoming swastika-bearing undead swarm.

VERDICT: What is with all the zombie game modes in games this year? Don't think I'm complaining. I freakin' love zombies.

All You Need Is Cash?

In a hugely successful victory over rival rockers Activision, Harmonix has gained the licenses to songs written and released by the Beatles. Harmonix plans to create a completely new game around the band, and it will not be branded as Rock Band; Alex Rigopulos says it will be an original game created from the ground up. [UPDATE: Despite confusing and inaccurate reports to the contrary, there has been no announcement of Beatles DLC for Rock Band.]

VERDICT: Who are these Beatles guys? Are they a big deal?

More NXE News? Tell Me More!

The Gamerscore Blog announced today that upon the November 19 release of the New Xbox Experience, the creatable avatars will be implemented into four already existing Xbox Live Arcade Games: UNO!, Bomberman Live, Hardwood Hearts and Hardwood Spades. Each game will involve custom animations that will bring your newly created avatars to life.

VERDICT: Awesome, the NXE is actually seeing some support. Take that, Nintendo!

Can I Conquer Middle-Earth? Huh? Can I?

Pandemic Studios announced in a press release this week that they are working on a new game within the world of Middle-earth called Lord of the Rings: Conquest. The game is being designed by the same team who created the popular Star Wars: Battlefront series, and will follow in a similar theme. Expect the game to ship January 13 in the U.S.

VERDICT: Sweet — I get to be a completely insignificant, expendable soldier in the fight to save/take over Middle-earth! Sounds like a blast! (I'm serious, this sounds awesome.)

They Can Run A Campaign, But Can They Shoot a Rocket Launcher?

In other Pandemic Studios news, the GamesPolitics blog reports that there will be two new playable characters are hitting the Marketplace for their game Mercenaries 2 - Barack Obama and Sarah Palin. You can check out a gameplay video of their particular style of taking care of business here.

VERDICT: Oh. My. Goodness. This might be the single greatest DLC the world has ever seen.

COMMENTS:

again, in response to "ill sue ya4"- it's not you're fault you're probably too young to really know more about them, but The Beatles invented Rock and Heavy Metal, as we now know them. . yep, the groups you mentioned all learned structure and borrowed ideas and musical passages that The Beatles had already done. . and those groups would verbally agree. A very few examples of "heavier" rock, metal, and even alt-rock Beatles tunes are songs like "Helter Skelter", "Happiness Is A Warm Gun", "Yer Blues", "Birthday", "Back In The USSR", "She's So Heavy", "Day Tripper", "Taxman", and on and on and on I could go because there are scores of them.

Whether the persons in charge at Harmonix will choose really good Beatles "Rock" tunes for "Rock Band" remains to be seen.

Now as for your trippin out about the Beatles vs. Jesus thing . . . . gosh, I just don't think you should go there. I know I don't want to.....That's all.

ahh... but can the beatles... strike anyone they want down with lighning? can they part rivers? die for US? save the world? have followers (ie, ME, other christians) for over 2000 years? have books written about them? be the holy son of GOD? so what he never wrote a song, he could send paul mccartney scurrying like a mouse.

Whats this about Jesus pwning The Beatles?
A: Jesus never wrote a decent song in his life.
B: As far as evil done in Jesus' name vs. in The Beatles' name, well Jesus' wins the death toll hands down.
C: The Beatles' are "more famous than Jesus" meaning that they traveled to parts of the world where people had heard of them, but not Jesus.

@ RC44o

im not brain dead.

the beatles are a perfect of example of good music thats not fun in rock band.

i do not hate the beatles.

the beatles are NOT more popular than Jesus.

Jesus pwns the beatles.

i like hard rock (ie, deep purple, led zepplin, AC/DC etc...) and metal (ie, avenged sevenfold, motorhead, system of a down, metallica, iron maiden, anthrax, etc...)

draw conclusions RC44o.

Beatles songs not good for Rock Band? Surely many of their songs will be better than others, and just who gets to pick them out will be of paramount importance, but you are obviously brain-dead about the Beatles . . . just the greatest 4 piece instrument playing, song writing, vocal group that has ever existed.

I finally have a reason for owning mercs 2.

Lord of the Rings Conquest needs to come out now!!!!!!1

also, none of the beatles stuff is any good for rock band, popular doen't equal fun. the jonas brothers are popular (goodness knows how), but they suck on every aspect.

tk -ing obama with palin... im getting mercs 2!!!!!

this just gave me a reason to buy mercs 2

Just wondering if this is just a Halloween prank. Either way it's still funny as hell!

lololololololololololol
